Hello, my name is Benjamin Craske and I'm a public historian and senior editor at a digital B2B publisher based in Norwich, UK.
This website is my space to reflect on my craft, play about with creativity and share with you what I learn along the way.
I fell in love with public history when I studied abroad at the beautiful beach campus at the University of California Santa Barbara. While there I took an introductory class on the subject I relished the reading materials and dove into the case studies, totally absorbed and inspired by the concept of engaging with the past in public.
In this blog, I want to share my passion for public history with you because it encourages interdisciplinary and progressive working practices that are useful in a range of fields, not just for historians.
This blog is for anyone interested in creative approaches to history, writing, community outreach or project management.
I publish articles and share resources related to the following topics:
- Public history - engaging with the past in accessible and authentic ways.
- Media observations - an outsider's perspective on working in the newsroom and publishing industry.
- Personal development - exploring habits, professional practices and behaviour patterns.
- Creativity - features, reviews, listicles, resources, writing advice and shared observations on my own failures and successes.
For a fuller explanation of my mission statement please see my first blog post. You can read it here.
